Title: A Promise of Fire
Series: Kingmaker Chronciles #1
Author: Amanda Bouchet

Catalia "Cat" Fisa is a powerful clairvoyant known as the Kingmaker. This smart-mouthed soothsayer has no interest in her powers and would much rather fly under the radar, far from the clutches of her homicidal mother. But when an ambitious warlord captures her, she may not have a choice…

Griffin is intent on bringing peace to his newly conquered realm in the magic-deprived south. When he discovers Cat is the Kingmaker, he abducts her. But Cat will do everything in her power to avoid her dangerous destiny and battle her captor at every turn. Although up for the battle, Griffin would prefer for Cat to help his people willingly, and he's ready to do whatever it takes to coax her…even if that means falling in love with her.

ARC from NetGalley

A Promise of Fire begins when Cat is enjoying a normal evening working with her friends at the circus like she's been doing for past eight years. She's been hiding and traveling for a long time now, and when a man, a warlord, takes an interest in her things start to shift. He ends up taking her away from her friends to his kingdom, and while she thought she would hate this man for learning parts of secret she never expected to actually come to care about him and his friends.

This book was a riveting tale of excitement, action, secrets, love, loyalty and friendship.
I adored this story! It's probably one of the best I've read this year!
The heroine is a blend of fierce and protective of those she loves, but she's also innocent in certain ways and maybe a little bit crazy as well.

Then you have the hero and his friends who are also loyal and fierce, but they all learn something from Cat and she from them.

This author somehow created an amazing world with a spectacular female lead who manages to intrigue and frustrate you in many ways. I loved this book, and I look forward to more in this series. This one was a great start to the series, and ended with us wanting more, but with out a cliffhanger.
