A pack Alpha and his estranged, true mate wrestle with painful secrets, ruthless enemies, and their own irresistible attraction, in the sexy third book of the Phoenix Pack series. Half-shifter Shaya Critchley may hold a submissive role in her pack, but she’s done taking orders. After her Alpha wolf mate refused to claim her—but committed to interfering in her life—she took off. Now she hides from him, posing as a human in a town full of anti-shifter extremist groups. She thinks he’ll never find her again, and that suits her just fine. But she’s wrong. Nick Axton can barely control his feelings for Shaya, but he could never claim her—not if he truly cares for her. The degenerative brain condition he keeps secret would ultimately leave her with a burden rather than a mate. But when Shaya runs away, Nick can’t bear the thought of never seeing her again. After tracking her down, he discovers Shaya’s feisty and passionate side in the process…a side he’d never seen before. Under the menacing gazes of territorial local packs and violent human extremists, Nick vows to finally claim the spirited Shaya…and despite her initial resistance, Shaya just might find his fiery determination to be the ultimate aphrodisiac.
Carnal Secrets begins when Nick finds out that his fated mated has disappeared because she wants to escape him. She kind of can't blame her because he rejected her, and didn't explain anything to her but now he's decided he can't live with out her. So he sets out to find her then claim her. The problem with that is Shaya can't forgive him. She's been hurt before, and what Nick did just added to it. But he works super hard to try to win her back. Along with them trying to work on their relationship they have to deal with the local packs, and human's who want nothing to do with shifters.. Then there is both their friends and family who aren't sure whose side to be on.. This is a whole lot deal with, but Nick and Shaya do their best to work through everything around them.
When I started the book I didn't really know what to expect. Now I will admit for about thirty percent of the way I was a little frustrated, and pissed at Shaya. I seriously thought she was taking everything way way way too far. But eventually she came to her sense. Then Nick, I felt so bad for him. He wanted to do what he felt was best for others but never himself. Even if he was wrong on so many levels for certain things his heart was still in the right place. And he seriously did everything in his power to get Shaya back. These two make a wonderful couple, and I was very happy with them. Now I want to see what happens with Nick's sister. I really liked her as well. And of course it was super awesome to see more of Trey and Taryn. And even Jamie, and Dante. Not to mention all of the other fun characters from previous books. This one had a bunch of laughs, and frustrated, but it really made me happy in the end. I thought it was very very good, and very well written!
