Former homicide detective Camden Wilde has been in love with his ex-partner, Eva Cardoso, for longer than he cares to admit. Not that it matters. She’s shoved him into the friend zone, and after living through the hell of his parents’ violent deaths, Cam’s unable to give her the idyllic life she secretly desires.
Eva’s never met a person who hasn’t let her down. Cam may be sex personified, but he’s the only man she can trust, and there’s no way she’ll risk their friendship on the off-chance they could be more. Especially not after the one scintillating night she’s trying—and failing—to forget.
When a murder-for-hire contract on his head lands Eva on his doorstep, Cam knows it’s time to put up or shut up. He’s done biding his time, and he’ll be damned if he lets the delectable detective ignore what’s between them, no matter the cost.
This story begins when Eva and Cam are at Cam's brothers wedding. They have been best friends for the last five years, and Cam has been hiding the fact the he is in love with Eva for all that long. But when they both get very drunk and have a one night stand, Eva sneaks out of bed the next morning and won't speak to Cam. She is running scared because of her past, and now she's not sure what to do about Cam. And Cam doesn't want to risk losing her even if that means hiding how he really feels from her. These two have go through the emotional ringer especially when someone hires a hit out on Cam. Now they are trying to figure out how to handle their relationship, and the new threat.
I liked this book, and over all it was good. But I was very frustrated with the whole will they won't they type of thing the book had going on. I really didn't care for Eva. I felt like she was a huge coward when it came to her feelings for Cam. And Cam only disappointed me towards the end, but other than that I really liked him a lot. Also it was nice to get to see more of the other brothers as well. However, I'm really not a big fan of Cam's twin, he rubs me the wrong way. I did like the story, not sure if I will read any more in this series. But it was a nice read.
