Title: First Strike
Series: I-Team, # 5.9
Author: Pamela Clare
Rating: 3 Shooting Stars

Warning: This story ends with a cliffhanger.

 Just a weekend…

Laura Nilsson knows what she wants: a successful career as a broadcast journalist—and a little fun between the sheets now and again. What she doesn’t want is marriage or kids. When a ripped and sexy stranger intervenes to stop a couple of drunks from harassing her in a hotel bar in Dubai City, all she can think about is spending the rest of the weekend with him—in her bed. There’s just one little problem. Unmarried sex is illegal in Dubai. …

of no-strings sex …

Navy SEAL Javier “Cobra” Corbray is on his way home from a rough deployment in Afghanistan when he finds himself having dinner with “the Baghdad Babe.” What she wants from him—sex with no strings—could land them both in prison. Still, he’s more than happy to oblige her. She’s confident and sexually assertive, and he’s secure enough to lie back and let her make the first strike. But, as she’s about to find out, he’s more than her match. …

or the beginning of something more?

Yet, neither Laura nor Javier has any idea what lies ahead—or how this weekend of mind-blowing sex will impact their emotions. Will they act on their new-found feelings in time, or will they let something special slip away… perhaps forever?

First Strike begins with Javier and Laura meeting in Dubai City. While Javier is on leave for now, Laura is currently working a story. She knows Javier will be leaving to go back to the States very soon, but she doesn't care. They decide two spend a three day weekend with sex with out strings. But some how they both end up feeling a whole lot more for each other, but they thought they had a whole lot of time to figure it out and find each other when they got back to the States. Little did they know they wouldn't have any time at all...

This is a very very short story that I recommend reading before reading Striking Distance. In this story we basically get to see Javier and Laura meet for the first time, and then we find out the horrible news in the ending. This story was okay. I felt like we didn't really get to see any "depth" of emotion from either character. It was all just kind of a spark. Well until the end, then there was major emotion from Javier, but until then I couldn't really feel very much between them. But as soon as I read this one I had to read Striking Distance immediately afterwards. So this is a good "pre read" to the next book!

Title: Striking Distance
Series: I-Team, #6
Author: Pamela Clare
Rating: 4 Shooting Stars

Her past is a secret—even to her. Discovering it will be the most dangerous move of her life.

TV reporter Laura Nilsson, known as the "Baghdad Babe," spent eighteen months in an Al Qaeda compound after being kidnapped live on the air. Two years later, she's still wondering why.

No rescue mission in Javier Corbray's fourteen years as a Navy SEAL affected him the way Laura's rescue did. No woman has stirred his protective instincts the way she has. And he wants her more than he's ever wanted anyone.

As Laura and Javier's passion ignites, so does Laura's need to discover the mystery of her past. Especially when she learns that her abduction was not random—and that she's still a target for a killer with an impenetrable motive. Now Javier will have to rely on his skills to keep the woman he loves from being struck down before she dares uncover the truth.

Striking Distance begins with Javier out on a mission to bring in the man who abducted Laura and killed her eighteen months ago. But after getting into the man's compound he must stop to save a woman who says she's American. Little did he know that it was Laura... She's not the same woman he meet so long ago, but at least she is alive and safe now.

Two years later, Laura is glad to be back in America, and is testifying against the man who held her captive for so long where she was beaten, raped, and threatened to be killed every single day. Now though she's glad he is behind bars. But there is still someone out to kill her. That is where Javier comes in. He runs into Laura again and they decide to start building on their relationship.. Well sort of, they start off as friends this time. But he must do everything he can to keep Laura safe until they can figure out who is after her. She still has some secrets she's hiding though, things that are haunting her.. But so does Javier. These two have to go through so many hurdles but they do finally come out in the end in a beautiful HEA.

This book was very good. I really enjoyed it. The story was very unique in my opinion. No one else on the I-Team has had to undergo this much horror.. I felt so badly for Laura through out the whole book, and then towards the ending I was even in tears because of the things she had to go through! And Javier was always there with her, to protect and love her. The book also has an awesome epilogue! I hope this series continues with more awesome books such as this one!
