Title: Broken Promises
Author: Dawn Pendleton
Rating: 3 Shooting Stars

After three years in Boston attending college, Mallory Wells has come home to Casper, Maine to care for her father, who is dying from cancer. She left Casper without looking back, leaving her small-town life and everyone in it, behind. Including her sexy high school sweetheart.
Luke Bates was devastated when Mallory left him for the city life. He managed to pull himself together and move on, even if only just barely. When Mallory shows up in town, Luke vows to stay away from her at all costs. So why does he keep checking in on her and her father, showing up when he's clearly uninvited? Maybe Luke isn't as 'over her' as he thought.

Broken Promises is about Mallory, a girl who left her small home town to move to Boston. Now three years later, she's home to take care of her dad who has cancer. He only has a little bit of time left, and he's not going through treatment so it's only a matter of time till he dies.

While Mallory is back home she keeps running into her ex boyfriend, high school sweetheart, and the love of her life, Luke. Things get bad when both of them start throwing verbal punches, and they each blame the other for their heart break.

During this story they both seem to make the same mistakes, and they both seem to be very spoiled. I couldn't stand the heroine. She drove me nuts. I really thought she was a brat. Luke took care of her father while she was gone, and still helped her through ever thing. Now I think he should have gone after what he wanted to begin with but he didn't, so that's on him. But I just couldn't get over how Mallory acted towards him.

Overall the book was okay. I couldn't connect to the character's, mainly because the heroine was a spoiled brat. But I did like the hero, and the plot was good too.
