Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit, Chicago's newest vampire. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene-and to spy for the vamps while she's at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan's offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.
Unfortunately, someone is gunning for Gabriel, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She'll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals-not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries-old master vampire.
Wow, this is the best one so far in this series! I loved it! So it takes place right after Merit gets a message to meet someone at the fountain I'm Chicago. She meets this mystery person and gets offered an opportunity that could make or break everything she's worked for so far. Then things get worse when Merit and Ethan have to help the shifters and try to build an alliance with them and keep them in Chicago. I thought Ethan was a horrible jerk through a lot of this book, but in the end he redeems himself completely. And Merit has a lot to learn about her self, and her relationship with her house and Ethan. I love the shifters in this book. I was so excited Merit forms a special relationship with the King shifter. :) And the romance in this one was so freaking awesome. Along with lots of humor, action, and a little big of heartache this one is my favorite so far!! I did hate Ethan's ex girlfriend though. And I also do not like the cliffhanger endings in this series, but it makes me extremely excited for the next book. Yay I can not wait to read it.
